fiat engines
PROJECT
Engines for the Fiat Punto, Bravo / Brava Stilo, Marea, Multipla, Doblo, Lancia 839 (Lybra) and 841 (Dialogos prototype and the production version of Thesis).
STRATEGY
The small design company Di Camillo Design, who supported only one client – the Fiat Corporation, at the instigation of Fiat Seicento designer Luciano Bove, hired a first-year IED student from faraway Poland. The most challenging aspect to design... an extremely dull detail - the housing of the motor. In a short time, Janusz Kaniewski did design the engine compartment for a whole range of Fiat and Lancia model cars, his work surviving through the nineties unchallenged. Later came the re-styling of the legendary, exhibited at MoMA in NY, Torque FIRE Engine by Dario Di Camillo. Engine 841 goes under the hood of the Stola manufactured Papal limousine (Pope JPII never sees it, choosing the brand of Mercedes- Benz instead). Then Janusz Kaniewski went to Pininfarina.
Fiat Engine 1.9 jtd was one of the best-selling and most award-winning in-class products in history.
